Designs on Boxes for Old Clothes and Toys

Not only are large wooden boxes good for storage, they are a design opportunity. First I painted this box with left over paint and then I cut out apples from wrapping paper, for a while. That had therapeutic advantages! Then I stuck the apples on and then I painted a clear varnish over the top. This is a process, I have since found out, called ‘decoupage’- french for cutting out.
In this box I keep children’s clothes the youngest has outgrown. One day I will have to decide whether these clothes will ever be useful again or whether I should give them away- not an easy decision.

For this other box I cut out pretty teacups. It is a toy box and now a little mangled.
